The ecclesiastical councils held in Dvin served as a platform where not only church-related matters but also pivotal issues concerning the spiritual and national life of the Armenian people were discussed. At the first Council of Dvin in 506, the Armenian Church clarified its stance regarding the decisions of the Council of Chalcedon; subsequently, at the second Council of Dvin in 554, it reaffirmed its doctrinal position, more distinctly separating its own path from the Byzantine ecclesiastical tradition. The Councils of Dvin played a significant role in the formation and consolidation of the Armenian Church’s independent doctrinal tradition, becoming a vital pillar for the preservation of the spiritual and national identity of the Armenian people.
