All Tabernacle Feasts are usually followed by a Divine Liturgy for the peace of souls of the departed. Today the celebrant was Father Husik Smbatyan in the Mother Cathedral. It is after the Divine Liturgy and the Requiem Mass that the Christians should visit the graves of their deceased relatives taking the Great Tidings of the birth of the Lord to their souls, too.

The portrait bust of Alexander Harutyunyan was openedToday, at the Pantheon of the Komitas Park the portrait bust of famous Armenian composer Alexander Harutyunyan was opened. The fans of his art, friends and relatives congregated at his cemetery headed by the Chairman of Composers Union. The sculptor of the portrait bust is Garegin Davtyan, the architect – Albert Sokhikyan.

Gender Equality: Disguised ThreatsOn May 30, 2013, National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia adopted the Law N 57 “On Provision of Equal Rights and Opportunities for Women and Man”. No public discussions were held during the process of adopting the Law. The clergy and a number of cultural and public figures claim that the title of the Law has in fact nothing to do with its content which refers to gender (obtained sexual behavior) and gender equality. There are some who go as far as to claim that this is an attempt to shake the roots of traditional Christian family by legitimizing perversion.

Meeting with TigranPaskevichyanMeetings with Armenian writers continue to be held in the bookstore “Armenian Book”. On November 12 it was hosting poet, script writer and publicist TigranPaskevichyan. All specialists and his friends consider his works to be one of the best expressions of Armenian poetry in the period of independence. The hero of TigranPaskevichyan is a person who found himself after the independence at a loss and tries to understand himself and his own emotional perceptionsin attempt of making the reality meaningful.

Exhibition of Lithuanian PhotographyLithuanian Photography exhibition section was opened in the National Gallery of Armenia. The exhibition which is titled “Dialogue of Generations, Daily Life” presents the works of three Lithuanian photographer’s generations, unveiling daily routine of common Lithuanians and the changes it underwent over the last half century. The exhibition will last till October 30. |
